Women and long titles, things Tones don't need.

Government News has a rundown on Tony Abbott’s great simplification of Ministerial titles.

Less cluttered, better focused, more energetic.

That was message to public servants and the electorate in Prime Minister elect Tony Abbott’s First Ministry announcement where not everyone gets a prize, and some portfolio ministries just plain disappear through downsizing likely to be mirrored in public service agency roles.

“What I’ve tried to do is to avoid long and sonorous titles, because once you start mentioning one lot, you’ve got to start mentioning everyone or they feel that they’re in some way neglected,” Mr Abbott said.

“There will be a reorganisation of portfolios that will flow from this particular Ministry . . . the administrative arrangements order will be published after the swearing in on Wednesday and some reorganisations inside the public service will obviously follow from that.”

And if you can’t find your position after Wednesday it might be you’re surplus to requirements!

Climate change is crap and so is science. Sport, on the other hand, is reallyreallyreally important.

And women tend to lack substance. They are ethereal.

If you know any women who lack substance, there are certain bikie ‘clubs’ who would be only too happy to supply them.

I’ve known a lot of horrible and very intelligent people. When you ask for their reasons for any horrible action they always seem very reasonable and misunderstood. Only time can tell whether they are truly simplifying or really have icky priorities. There’s always a good argument to giving someone special responsibility for some priority area that actually falls under someone else’s banner.

‘Ethereal’ would explain why their knocking on the Cabinet door wasn’t going so well.

sport and Anzac day are in for ministers

That’s because Australia’s favourite sport is creating more ANZAC Days – Iraq, Afghanistan, probably Syria next..

Of course, it was the ALP’s gross corruption, particularly in NSW, that gave us Abbott too…

Simplification is much better than the licorice allsorts departments we had under Labor. DIICCSRTE springs immediately to mind. Having a Minister for Social Services is better than have 5 Ministers and Parl Secs each covering a small aspect of what was FAHCSIA and each not talking to the other; Communications is a bit easier to handle than Broadband, Communication and the Digital Economy; Climate Change fits nicely under Environment; etc. Sections of the media and the lefty luvvies are this morning making all sorts of noises because we don’t have a Minister for the Aging and no specific Minister for Climate Change. We do, they just have broader single titles instead of 4 different titles.

While i agree simplifying names is good, Why not Minister for Technology because communications means many things, most not related to the portfolio. Science is also a pretty big area. Is it too much to be Minister for Industry and Science. I’m happy for climate change to be under environment, but Labor was abolishing Climate change anyway as its purpose was to set up the carbon tax and that was done.

Thought this was another Skywhale thread at first. On my small tablet screen it looked like “women and long tities, things Tones don’t need”.

Said with the confidence of someone who doesn’t live in NSW or Qld.

Actually, the sky has fallen in in NSW. I know cos I live there.

But I still blame the ALP, for it was their gross corruption that gave us O’Farrell.

Given that Tony promised to abolish the climate change area

Seriously? As in, the whole climate change thing doesn’t exist so we don’t need a minister for it? Are people still trying to deny climate change exists in 2013?

Some people might actually think that climate change is an environmental issue, and a Minister for the Environment, who coincidentally, like the PM, is not a climate denier, has the portfolio that covers a range of environmental issues.

WRONG. Climate change is a socialist plot to deindustrialise the western world and introduce central economic planning and radical income redistribution. It has nothing to do with the environment, stupid!

Please tell me that you’re joking?

Which is exactly why the LNP wants to abolish a market-based mechanism in favour of direct intervention. I humbly bow before our new socialist overlords.

Beginning to think not many of you actually work in the APS.

Based on comments on this site I’ve developed the understanding that no-one actually works in the APS.

I think the names chosen for the ministries and the quite important sections left out altogether are sending a clear message of tony’s priorities.

sport and Anzac day are in for ministers, climate change and science are out.

it isn’t soley about simplifying names.

Beginning to think not many of you actually work in the APS.

Neanderthalsis nailed it in post #1. Abbott is trying to simplify the departments.

There is no Minister for Climate Change because it will either fall under the Minister for Environment or the Minister for Industry. This is the same reason why we dont have a Minister for Energy, Science or Resources.

The same as there is no longer a Minister for things like aged care, mental health or disability. They will all fall under either the Minister for Health or the Minister for Social Services.

This is try and cut back on stupidly named departments such as DIICCSRTE, Which I believe is currently:
The Department of Innovation, Industry, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education. (plus Small Business falls into this department too)

If this truly is an indication that the Commonwealth will begin stepping back from areas which are “traditionally” the responsibility of the States and Territories, we are in for some interesting times.

In the meantime, and in search of a little silver lining in the cloud (such appropriate weather we’ve been having), I take some encouragement from the use of the word sonorous in that statement.

sorry – I jumped the gun – I thought this guy had got environment.

I still expect climate change to get very short shrift under this govt.

It’s more that the responsibility for climate change now rests with a broader environment focus.

Given that Tony promised to abolish the climate change area, i doubt we have a minister for climate change. Especially as the minister in charge of environment is a climate change denier.

I also doubt we have a minister for Aging, or a minister for science, but I hope you are right.
