Women’s golf open to be held in canberra?

By Thumper - 18 June 2008 3

Canberra is a step closer towards hosting the Australian Women’s Golf Open in 2013 according to this ABC report.

The ACT Government and Golf Australia have reached a preliminary agreement to stage the tournament during the capital’s centenary celebrations. There is no decision yet on which course would be used although one would suspect Royal Canberra.

There should be an outrage if the women don’t play at Royal Canberra.

The men do when a major tournament is held in Canberra.

Let’s hope it’s no different for the ladies.

Federal will need until 2013 to get the course presentable.

It would be a good pickup for sport in the ACT – the Australian Womens Open Golf attracts a top class world field, as opposed to the Mens which has half the top Aussies and a couple of world weary journeymen.

Royal would be the obvious choice, but Federal would make a great layout – the logistics of parking and corporate tents etc may be more difficult there though.

Could be a big year with a potential of both cricket and rugby test matchs on the agenda as well.
