The Canberra Times contains a major whine by “Tourism operators” that the Centenary of Canberra organisers aren’t working hard enough to make them money.
National Capital Attractions Association president Heather Millard said the Canberra 100 celebrations had too much of a local focus and needed to include events that would appeal to interstate tourists.
”At the moment it’s really locally based, street barbecues and get-togethers with your neighbours. We’d like to see some more movement in that [interstate appeal] area,” she said.
Centenary organisers in turn claim they’ve got big plans to make lots of money for hotel owners, but the program won’t be finalised until the end of 2012.
