Wooden spoon for the Raiders?

Last weekend’s 48-10 grubbing against Parramatta has put the Raiders well and truly out of finals contention this year. A summary of last Sunday’s game is available at the Raiders’ site.

Attention now turns to this weekend’s final game for the Raiders against the Sea Eagles. Following upset wins to the Roosters (beating Brisbane) and Newcastle (beating Cronulla), there is a possibility the Raiders may receive the wooden spoon. The Raiders are currently sitting on 22 points, the Rabbits on 21 and Newcastle are on 20.

The wooden spoon formula for the Raiders looks like this:

Sea Eagles beat the Raiders + Rabbitohs beat the Sharks + Knights beat the Dragons = wooden spoon

It would then come down to points for and against. The Knights are currently on -192 and the Raiders are on -123. The Knights would have to flog the Dragons and/or the Sea Eagles would have to flog the Raiders for them to receive the spoon.

Despite this, the Raiders still have alot to play for this weekend. By beating the Sea Eagles they will avoid the wooden spoon, possibly knock the Sea Eagles out of finals contention (opening the door for the Rooters and Panthers), and will receive a healthy dose of pride after what may be described as one of the worst seasons in the club’s history.

Maybe he was trying to live up to his post add nickname….. THE GARDENER

Well spotted AD, I think as far a spokesman for garden practices he is a poor choice. Especially when you consider that he was busted trying to plant a storm player head first at Olympic park…

I just thought with the amount of crap that guy has done this year someone may have decided that he is not the best person to be telling people to do things

Can’t say I’ve seen them for a while either. I think they were the ones about conserving water in the garden or something.

Is just me being ignorant or have adds with woolfords mug mumbling some rubbish been taken off the air…

Fair call Thumper, eight is far too many teams to reward at the end of a season.

Ralph, Worst season is a bit rough considering the quality of football being played accross the board this year. That being said their were some very dissapointing results and efforts from the green machine.

Ferret, I have to disagree with you about Woolfords absence reulting in six straight losses. I think there have been various other factors that have contibuted to the lack lustre performances over the last few rounds; the quality of the teams played is not the least of these.

Bring on ’06.

Worst seasons in history? Hmmm – I think hardest seasons in history. I don’t remember a year when the team has lost so many key players.

Unfortanately, Schif has had a quieter season than the last couple, but the promise is there for the future – since Carney spent a couple of weeks in the twos, he’s been much improved. Add to that a bigger and stronger Campese and guys like Jermain Ale coming thru, the kids look ok.

With Whingeford (his value now recognised after 6 straight losses) back, and a full strength hungry young pack including Weyman, Thompson, Nugget Miller, Rothery, Terry Martin and others, the Raiders could be a half decent team…

I don’t know who Elliot is targetting in the off season, but there is hope.

The Raiders fans true dream for 2006 is for the Green Men to dig up another Daley, Clyde and Stuart trio as 17 years olds playing in the jnr leagues, country or union!…
