Woodlawn Bio-Reactor to house bird flu carcasses?

ABC Online is reporting that, in the event of an out-break of bird fly in NSW the carcasses will be interred in the mighty Woodlawn Bio-Reactor just up the road from us.

It seems like a sensible thing to do but one wonders where it will end. Compared to the horrors of the English BSW and foot and mouth slaughters of recent times where funeral pyres covered the landscape (and spead the disease) I bet they wish they had a bio-reactor to dump carcasses into.

Thumper, just watch soylent green, I’ve brought it in for you to watch today

They’ve also got a railhead direct to the hole, which is a bonus for handling these birds.

If they can make the bioreactor work it’ll be a big, big deal towards sustainability.

It’s a bit gross to think about, but if it’s safe and viable then sounds like a good way to get power.

rotting birds anyway.

best all round if they’re dead eh?

So dead birds will be used to power stuff?

the bio-reactor concept as i understood it involved them sealing the thing so they could extract the waste gasses for power generation.

so it should in theory be safer than landfill.

Chicken Tonight straight from your kitchen tap, mmmmmmm!

Interesting concept. About 7 years ago they wanted to make Woodlawn into a landfill but there were fears the waste would seep into the water supply. The rotting bird cardasses won’t do the same thing?

Can we bio-react dead people too?
