John Hargreaves has announced the release of exposure draft regulations to flesh out the Work Safety Act 2008.

“Introducing the Work Safety Act 2008 represents a major step in improving work safety outcomes. I now intend to introduce the first stage of the work safety regulations which will sit under the Act and provide additional detail on specific work safety issues, such as workplace arrangements, licensing high risk work and manual tasks at work.

“I invite all individuals and organisations to comment and make submissions on the draft regulations. Community views are important to ensure the new work safety legislation is effective, and responsive to the needs of the ACT workforce and business.”

Apparently they’ll be going online sometime today.

Comments will close Monday 20July 2009.

Is Hargreaves seriously overhauling the entire ACT’s Worker’s Safety and Compensation provisions, to have a personal crusade defending the honour of his long dead cat?

People will entre polics for all sorts of reasons, so this would seem as valid as any other.

You’re ridiculously wrong.

(Happy to be told I’m ridiculously wrong, by the way)

Erm, the current Occupational Health and Safety Act 1989 is the head Act under which the Dangerous Substances Act of 2004 is governed, under which the Dangerous Substances (Explosives) Regulations 2004 are produced.

These Regulations are what the Queen’s Birthday supply of consumer fireworks comes under, which could be what he references as “licensing high risk work”, for some reason.
(Have we had any firework employee injury?)

Is Hargreaves seriously overhauling the entire ACT’s Worker’s Safety and Compensation provisions, to have a personal crusade defending the honour of his long dead cat?

PS: If you like fireworks, make it clear to your MLAs that you do not support any such amendments requiring further changes to the Dangerous Substances (Explosives) Regulations.
