WorkSafe ACT inspectors have shut down 11 construction sites belonging to a local construction company for serious safety breaches after finding more than 50 offences across the sites.

The company is now prohibited from construction work in the Territory until they implement a safe work system and fix the identified safety issues. All 50 offences are being investigated further.

Fall risks, site security, lack of housekeeping and electrical safety issues were identified across the workplaces after inspectors searched 13 residential construction sites belonging to the company.

Acting Work Health and Safety Commissioner Amanda Grey called the lack of safety unacceptable.

“Every worker has the right to work in a safe environment and go home to their families at the end of the day,” she said.

“We are committed to improving safety standards in residential construction to help prevent workplace deaths and injuries in the ACT.”
