bookmark unrolling

The World’s Biggest Bookmark has been a long term project of the ACT Library Service and volunteers.

Today the fruits of their labour was unrolled in Civic Square.

One hopes a good time was had by all.

UPDATE 06/12/12 09:14: The media release has now downgraded the achievement to Canberra’s biggest. Which is pretty small beer really.

They got in touch with Guinness world records who basically said if you want to classify it as a world record you have to pay for someone to come and check everything. They didn’t have the funding.

All that and it ends up just being “Canberra’s biggest bookmark”!

what, has dapto a bigger one?

If it’s downgraded to only the Northside’s biggest, expect angry scenes involving needles and a fleet of very slow four cylinder cars ramming things.

But can you see it from the moon?

There are Martians looking through telescopes at what they think are canals as we speak…

But can you see it from the moon?

And to think people here used to disparage it as “the world’s biggest useless thing.”

Any sign of the book?

The matching book has been postponed due to printing cuts in the public service:

Check out all the nannas admiring it. Very cute!

Could also double as a massive scarf?

You should see the book it was made for.

I think it is one of the ‘10,000 reasons to like Canberra’. I know you’ve always had a soft spot for it JB! Hahahaha!
