Wrong way round a roundabout... ?

Just wondering if anyone else saw a car going the wrong way round the big roundabout at the intersection of Yamba Drive/Yarra Glen/Melrose Drive at 5.15 yesterday afternoon (Thursday). Looked like a late 90s commodore, silver colour, but was being driven at a reasonably sedate pace.

How on earth does anyone go the wrong way round a roundabout like that?

I had that happen to me a couple of years ago on that roundabout. I was in the right lane going straight and fortunately managed to swerve into the left lane before the car coming towards me reached me. Narrow escape though. The car going the wrong way didn’t even seem to slow down or react at all.

As a ‘I feel so lucky to be alive right now!’ moment it was only trumped by the white van that crashed through the traffic waiting at the lights on Canberra Ave just as I as about to turn right onto that road.

I assume you’ve bought a lottery ticket or two since, sounds like a safe bet!

I’ve seen someone else do it many years ago, but it was at night.

Grey haired old lady in a Lancer, turned right from Melrose and headed the wrong way to Yamba Dr. I’d stopped a 100m away when I realised she was heading my way. She just kept driving stairing at me trying to work out why I had stopped

Happens a lot.

I’ve also seen a car reversing (!) up the northbound exit from the Parkway onto Cotter Rd.

Right on . . I saw that too.

No, there was something the other day about a jerra residents group complaining that people were driving the wrong way around their roundabout. When the approached QBN council about it the council said the signage was fine.

Perhaps they had a mental blank and thought they were driving into Jerrabomberra, apparently that’s been a problem there.

its no where near jerra? its the big roundabout near the pitch and putt he’s talking about.

as for them being ‘a yank’, the easiest way to remember what side of the road you’re meant to be on, is the saying ‘passenger to kerb’. helped me when I came back from living in Canada and learning to drive over there. although if you’re going the wrong way on a roundabout, kerbs are on both sides!!!

Simple. By being a Canberran.

Must have been an overseas driver. Happens when you pull out (of a quiet road with no road markings) onto a busy street without concentrating. The best way i’ve seen is to draw an arrow (on the windshield) pointing to the correct side of the road. I hope you honked/signaled them 🙂

Happens a lot.

Heh, took me a couple of reads to get that!

I have seen people trying to turn the wrong way on the roads around Majura Park, it’s always pretty amusing. But on a big busy roundabout, that’s pretty talented to get it wrong. Maybe the driver was dyslexic.

Probably a Yank.
