ACT Policing is investigating an aggravated burglary which occurred in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, June 22) in Yarralumla.
About 3.20am police responded to a report of a burglary at the post office on Bentham Street. On arrival police observed damage to the post office consistent with it being struck by a vehicle. Entry had been gained to the premises but it appears no items had been stolen.
A short time later, a General Duties patrol from Woden Police Station attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on the driver of a grey Mazda 121, detected speeding on Kent Street in Hughes. The driver failed to stop and accelerated away from police.
A pursuit ensued for a number of minutes with the driver stopping the car in Goble Street, Hughes. The driver and passenger then fled on foot and evaded police.
It was later confirmed the car had been stolen earlier in the evening and used in the Yarralumla aggravated burglary.
Anyone who may have seen the incident at Yarralumla and provide descriptions of those involved, or can assist police in any other way with the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
