Tied at half time (39-39) and scrapping through a bitterly fought third quarter with hardly any points scored the Canberra Capitals smashed the Sydney Flames with an unanswered fourth quarter scoring spree of 15 points to record a 73-59 victory (the score blew out in the end).

First ever championship without Lauren Jackson!

Three cheers for the Caps!

UPDATED< :/b> Sometime in the afternoon two days later the Chief Minister’s website managed to join in the cheers.

They look like delicate petals to me.
You should see my wife.

When the team has a fair proportion of “butch” players, who says they are the ‘weaker sex’?

Bloody awesome game!!! WELL DONE CAPS!!

I’d never really watched much WNBL before. I was struck by the ferocious nature of it all.
-And they talk about ‘the weaker sex’: Haha.
Congrats to the Caps.

Was a great game. Top notch tele played live on ABC.
Don’t know about the score ‘blowing out’ it came back to within 3 points just a couple of minutes out from the end.
A real nail biter…

Probably because David Lord wasn’t on Sport duty at Newsradio today, wolfkeeng. I’m sure he would have mentioned it.

Just as bad, yesterday the Channel 9 News (ex Sydney) carried no account of it either. But of course, no doubt WIN will have it tomorrow evening – only 2 days late.

I’m a newsradio junkie (part of the ABC family on FM 103.9 & for those of us in tuggers FM99.9) and wouldn’t have known there was even a WNBL final on, or who won. Mind you, they did tell me several times this morning who played the semi’s in the NBL. (Which I’m even less interested in than given the lack of a canberra team) A sexist or place-ist conspiracy (oh why is Canberra so neglected)? You be the judge. But thanks to riotact for keeping me informed. It’s been worth the price of subscription already!

good hard fought win. and those two 3 pointers that the hit in the final quarter… awesome.

Shame Jackie Kelly was the best eminence grise to hand out the winner’s rings.

I guess Dancing on Ice makes her an athlete?

Yay! Good on ya girls and congrats to Uber Coach Graf. We went to all their Tuggers games and there was a never say die attitude amongst that team that was awesome to see on the court. I’ve said it before but seeing that team play is one of the best family nights out in Canberra.
