Yet another Canberra bashing incident caught on film

News.com have this story on a bashing incident which apparently occured at Woden Plaza and for which the footage is now up on Youtube.

Anyone know anything about this?

It’s a rather sad indictment on society that such actions provide such entertainment (and, yes, I’m aware of the irony of me posting information about it here and, thus, potentially ensuring more people are “entertained” by it).

[Ed.(Jazz) this came in from a few people, including Toriness who actually found the vid in question. I suggest its not for everyone if you are thinking of watching it]

HORRIFIC footage of a group of teenage girls bashing a mother at a shopping centre is being examined by police.

Graphic footage of the fight, which appeared to have been filmed on a mobile phone by a teenage bystander outside of a Westfield shopping centre, has been viewed more than 140,000 times since it was uploaded onto the internet last week.

An ACT Police spokesman said the incident appeared to have taken place at the entrance of Westfield Woden, but was unsure when the attack occurred.

Warning: Video contains explicit language and violence. Click here to watch the video.

The spokesman said a formal report was not made to police over the incident.

Full story here

I can never fathom the stupidity of people placing footage of a crime they committed online for the world to see – I guess in this case it was a bystander, but why on earth didn’t they step in to help? And the rest of the cowards in the crowd doing the same, and even worse cheering these teenrats on???? What is wrong with people!

Yep. All four of them should’ve been charged with fighting in a public place.

When we had good old corporal punishment working in our schools there was a better standard of kid around because they knew not be be little S#*ts.

The police should charge these girls to the fullest extent of the law to set an example to todays youth that this type of behavior is not acceptable. These girls should be ashamed of themselves for such a cowardly attack.

I couldn’t agree more, The youth of today have no bloody respect, because of lack of discipline.

Here’s a novel idea – maybe the Police AND mall security should treat this particular shithole part of the Plaza as a “hot spot”, and for more than a few hours or days. Do regular patrols, and sit there all day until the idiots move on, and stay moved on. While McDonalds will loose the majority of their repeat business – good. Maybe they’ll shut down soon too and give these lovely Canberra residents less reason to hang around there. It’s interesting to consider there is a direct link to that location and McDonalds. No surprise really. Eat shit – become shit?!

This “hot-spot” approach worked years ago when I was younger. They used to have Metro Amusements down in the Plaza interchange. Huge groups of us used to hang out there (mind you – not spitting and fighting people) but we were loitering and without doubt intimidating people by us regularly being there in large numbers. Eventually we were all moved away by persistent attention by the cops, and while we were pissed off at the time, we all got a bit more of a life, stayed away – and in turn the Amusement place shut down. This also helped remove the temptation to go there. For a long time before, the Metro owners were pleading with the security and cops to leave the “customers” alone. F**k me!

What about the hero doing the filming?! He seems like a nice piece of work egging them on…

even when the mum was obviously getting smacked around towards the end and pleaing for help.

I’m sure their parents are so proud.

What pisses me off more is that people just stood there rubbernecking.

F&^king retards.

i only just got to watch the footage now – while i had the link at work today, the firewall prevented me from watching it – and yes it looks like the mother did make the first move, but she was probably reacting to something one of these little sh!ts said about her daughter. i mean, what sort of actions did these teenrats do to her daughter to cause her to go down the mall and confront them? 3 on 1 attack is cowardly and appalling, i stand by my original comment saying they are idiots to post this on the net – hope these brats are caught and reprimanded.

I don’t think it’s possible to say that the vicious girls were justified. If a group can attack a single person for being nasty to them, our society is in a lot of trouble. The woman doesn’t appear to be an innocent passer-by, but no one deserves what they did.

Having spent many years working for Shopping centres, there’s no doubt that mall security would have stepped in and broken up the fight, had they been around… It only went for just over a minute and they can’t be everywhere at once. At the end of the day, the only reason this is news is cause it was caught on camera, i’m pretty sure this repeated all over the place many times a day! Next…

I can’t find it on nothing toxic. It’s been removed from youtube.

Any other mirros?

Looks like they were all as bad as each other and all as guilty too, probably why the “mother” didn’t make a report.

From the sound of things, the mum was having a go at the girls at the start for picking on her daughter. But it does seem as though she was the one to step up and start the physical side of things, however I wouldn’t really class the actions of the girls, especially the third one who laid in with the knee, as “self defence”. Pleasant bunch of people all round 😛

The Nothing Toxic version got shown on WIN news tonight. The cops would very much like info about this incident, if anyone’s got any.

It’s great to see BenMac serving the retarted of this site! Good on ya Ben and Thanks!!! ;-p

it’s on the daily tele page now.

Whilst we’re tyalking about fights on youtube, not long ago, I found this video about the Summernats. I know there was some talk about the Summernats security being heavy handed, but did anyone see the video?

For those who have trouble searching websites, here’s the video

Well, if the mum started it, leave the girls alone completely. I believe somebody’s friends should have the right to defend them physically if they’re attacked. You choose to pick on a group of people, you deserve what you get.

‘come on you f-ing sluts’ sounds like an invite to get your arse handed to you. hit the lot of them with a fighting in a public place charge.

Deadmandrinking7:40 pm 29 May 08

Couldn’t really hear much except ‘come on you effing sl-ts’ from the mother. That’s one foul mouthed mum. Almost as bad as mine when she’s driving in Canberra.

Farkin hell! There’s some mean little b*tches! Take about 9 years from me and I would have been screaming ‘Catfight! Yeah!’. Now I can only chuckle a bit and feel really guilty.

I’m sure there’s a story behind this. Of course there’s no sound so I can’t pick anything out.

Special G, I couldn’t really tell whether the mum started it. If she did, then all three is justified (you bring it on, expect hell in return). If it was the girls, then only 1 is ‘fair’ (although she shouldn’t have been doing that in the first place). You start it, don’t mob them.

or you can see it on nothingtoxic dot com – it’s in the fighting videos and has sound

DMD – it’s on youtube with no sound just search canberra bashing.

It’s gone, all I get is the afternoon business wrap.

Looked amicable to me. Except for the third one coming in. Up until then she was giving it a good go.

Fuck me. I walk past that point every day when I go to collect lunch. One of the many disadvantages of working in Woden. Something about the word “Westfield” seems to attract trashy sluts, emo kids and welfare mums. The McDonalds there has a habit of hiring staff of the same calibre. I have colleagues who have been harrassed in that same area. I’m glad I live North side.

Private security won’t step in and detain unless someone’s about to stab the Security guard.
(Self defence instead of assaulting the shoplifter)

For most other things they’re just there for an expertly crafted game of Security Theatre.

That area of the Plaza (I refuse to call it W******d) has always attracted the shallow end of the gene pool and I don’t really know why. Both now with ANZ and before with NRMA it is/was Bogan Central, filled with Centrelink’s best customers smoking, spitting and swearing. They all perch on the slightly wider than normal low level windowsills (god knows how when you see the amount of real estate some of their ar$es occupy). Saw a particularly unfortunate W*******d cleaner scrubbing down the windows and path around there only a couple of days ago, and wondered just how little he gets paid to do such a thankless and unending job…

Step in to help, get charged with assault – or cop a knife in the guts when one of the little darlings decides to escalate things. Who was that good samaritan in Melbourne or Sydney who got a bullet for his trouble?

Mall security can’t do squat except ask you to leave the ‘inclosed / enclosed lands’ of the premises.

This post 1/2 written by Mrs Mælinar.

Now I see why at times Maelinar seems to have a split personality and highly bizarre streams of consciousness.

But, if caught and they get most of the ACT Magistrates, they’ll either be running wild again withing a few days, or spending a few hours a week in community counselling.
(as in a slap on the wrist and a “Try to avoid doing it again, but if your upbringing dictates it, do it in moderation.”)

Thanks in advance, Penfold.

Where were Security during this time? Shouldnt someone be “patrolling” aroung the front? Did the plaza cameras capture this incident? They should have with the ANZ so close to the door.

The parents of those girls should also be punished for doing such a ####ked job of raising them.

However a formal complaint should be made by the assaulted party, this way, if the perpetrators are caught it will make it easier to charge them.

These girls should be sent to a prison work farm, not a nice one either, like one you see on sixty minutes…..

Their upbringings will be blamed. They will have been forced to watch their mothers being beaten up as children, and suchlike.

The magistrate will determine that they had terrible upbringings, which makes it perfectly acceptible behaviour, and that they should get out into society as soon as possible to do it again.

Actually, for showing up at court, they may give them a car so they can get there faster. Please don’t try to hit anybody as you go through red lights.

VYBerlinaV8_the_one_they_all_copy4:35 pm 29 May 08

And yet if a couple of large but sensible males waded in and broke it up, you’d be seeing news stories about them being charged for beating up on little girls.

Get some sanity back into our legal system, and maybe then members of the public would be willing to step up and help out in situations like this.

Nasty little creatures. The future of our country? I hope not. The woman appeared to be arguing with them at first, and when they stepped back, she went at one of them. I think she just wanted to continue to have a go at the girl, but that was when they went her. The third one who came in during the fight seemed the most effectively savage, using her knees etc.

It’s sad that people just stood there watching, I guess they were shocked and didn’t know what to do. The charming lout (filming?) who was cheering them on is another future taxpayer we can all depend on (not).
