The Canberra Musicians Club is thrilled, and slightly terrified, to announce our most ambitious endeavour to date, the inaugural West Bank Festival. A three day celebration of Canberra’s creative community, it utilises three excellent and indispensable facilities located on the west bank of Sullivan’s Creek in Turner.
The Polish Australian White Eagle Club, the Australian Croatian Club and the Alliance Francaise form the newly designated West Bank Cultural Precinct, aimed at promoting these community assets and preserving them in community hands.
Music and arts lovers are invited to join us for a day or three to experience the best that Canberra has to offer across a broad range of artforms and genres. Discrete 2-3 hour concerts, staggered over the three days in seven venues, will showcase the best acts in each field.
Musically, these include punk, acoustic, pop, folk, blues, jazz, brass, latin, electronica, psytrance, country, a concert for kids and the CMC’s regular monthly events, the Bang! Bang! Bang! (beginners open mic, 3 songs max) and Ping Pong Jam (table tennis comp and open jam).
The Festival will also incorporate BAD!SLAM!NO!BISCUIT! (poetry slam), a couple of comedy shows, Dr Sketchy’s life drawing, the Sunday Assembly (secular church service), a Continental butcher and traditional Polish dancers. Reefer Records will be setting up a pop-up store in the Polish Club library and Sly Fox will be running their cafe in a marquee adjacent to the Alliance. Sunday afternoon, 12-6pm, will be an outdoor concert, free to all comers (ticket holders can access the VIP area).
