Your problems with builders. Simon wants to hear!

By johnboy - 24 May 2011 5

A courageous Simon Corbell is calling on the people of Canberra to tell him about your troubles with builders.

Mr Corbell said the survey, which was established last year in response to claims of widespread shoddy work, particularly with new units, will help the Government understand where improvements are required across the industry.

“The ACT Budget allocated more than $6.5 million over three years for initiatives to improve building quality and regulation of the industry,” Mr Corbell said.

“Any home or unit owner or body corporate that has experienced poor quality work can complete the survey. We are also hoping members of the construction industry and associated professions will pass the survey on to people they know will want to contribute.

“We want to know what the problems were and how they were resolved, or otherwise, and how much repairs cost.

The survey, we are promised, will go up on the ACTPLA website and run until 10 June, so get in quick.

What’s Your opinion?

Is it only about dogdy building quality or also shady builders? We are curently building our house and unfortunately stuck with the shadiest builder in the town, buiding bad quality house and taking forever! Feel very helpless as we get told by most authorities that you can’t do much! But would liek the world to knwo about this builder so they don’t get stuck with this dodgy company.

So would you like me to share it even if it’s a residential building?

Bring back proper building inspectors! Self regulation is the biggest failed rort ever. And ride those shonks building “posh” apartments with pretentious names and paper-thin walls. And turn the unions loose on those commercial projects that keep collapsing on top of (or underneath) their members.

…talking of repairable write-offs! (Pointed Simon at some nice youtube footage of problems with Elan in Lyneham.)

Too bad it’s focussed solely on residential buildings, and the scope doesn’t include dodgy bridges with a tendency to collapse during construction.

They already know about those.
