The team working on a refresh of the Legislative Assembly website are asking for feedback and have specifically asked for the insights of our sagacious readership.

They’ve got a survey to fill in but will also be reading the comments here.

Thoughts – It’s hard to find your way around, the javascript on the transcripts of hearings is really annoying, and the whole thing is obviously designed by someone who understands computers better than people.

Some basic usability testing would make some of the problems obvious.

You would think they would clean up the 39 disabled accessibility issues with the site before they asked for feedback!

I think they probably are given http://www.finance.gov.au/publications/wcag-2-implementation/index.html. Maybe they’re looking for a site design to help with this.

“legassembly”? Sounds like an Ikea organ donation racket!

Seriously, were I to be inclined to go to the site for any reason, the current menu probably covers most of the more likely topics. The site just feels/looks dated…much as I am a fan of KISS in web design.

It also currently uses a lot of teeny tiny text for no good reason.

I would like to give JB proxy to vote on my behalf. I rarely, if ever visit that site and, perhaps naively, rely on RA to tell me what is going on.

As for Gardening Girl at #5, I have to agree somewhat. There seem to be a lot of consultations floating around at the moment. Proposals or options in some seem to be a fete accompli or (despite being relevant) ignored in others.

I’m sure they believe it’s already a pressure cooker environment.

They already do. Big link at the top, middle of the home page.

I don’t really want to see the LA in a sauna.

I meant ‘stream’ but then again…

Steam the assembly live.

Is this we care about what you want or just another example of we care about looking like we care about what you want?

My sense is they’re interested in hearing what you want.

Whether they can deliver that within the budget is another question.

I bet mine aren’t!

I can honestly say I’m not going to visit the website. Someone else can do the dirty work for me, and I’ll read it here.

I can honestly say that I’ve never visited that website until right now.

I’m sure whatever comes out of the redesign will be appropriately modish.

But as an information consumer I’d settle for an RSS feed which lights up for every new or changed page on the site.

And if we’re wishlisting, an embeddable feed of proceedings.
