Opposition Leader Zed Seselja is making merry with Mr Stanhope’s ongoing blame shifting of planning failures to a bureacracy Mr Stanhope has been the master of for the best part of a decade.

“Jon Stanhope has no one to blame but himself and his Ministers for what he described as ‘excessive red tape’ in the planning system,” Zed said.

“Mr Stanhope claims there is an overlapping of responsibilities with different planning departments, yet his solution was to create another Department, Land and Property Services, under his control less than two years ago.

“We now have two Ministers picking and choosing which planning issues they will get involved in, which is causing confusion and slowing down the delivery of infrastructure, placing more pressure on housing affordability.

“The Canberra Liberals have been talking about a better way for planning for some time. We have long argued this Labor regime was pushing up the price of housing in the ACT and placing unnecessary delay in delivering housing options to Canberrans.

“We currently have before the Assembly, the Infrastructure Canberra Bill. The Bill is designed to streamline planning delivery with a co-ordinated and detailed infrastructure plan backed up with an Infrastructure Commissioner and board of experts to provide advice on the delivery of these projects.

Who is this Zed bloke? Is he someone important.

eration.

Zed has had his hands off the wheel for too long. I wonder if this is just an ab

Dr Alan Hawke (far from a fool) has been commissioned by the ACT Government to review its administrative structure – not least the current planning mess. I fear the best we can do is hope that he comes up with some sensible suggestions and they’re actually acted on.

Having a less arrogant planning minister and chief planner would do no harm either, but we’re talking the NSW Right faction of the party here, so ‘arrogance’ is pretty much the baseline.

As Deref observes, the only other alternative is to hope that Jesus still loves Zed…

Zed will get his mate Jesus to fix it.

I don’t really understand why Stanhope has split it up over so many different departments. It’s a classic “Yes Minister” situation he’s developed. I predict a rapid implosion of the three main organisations involved to “fix things” [aka clean up mess he created].

Of course, Stanhope has his work cut out for him having Barr bumble around annoying the electorate…

Bit hard to shift blame to things you’ve been in charge of for 10 years. The excuse of it was the previous government’s fault wears thin after a couple of years.

Stanhopless has taken to laying his boot into his departments lately when the only person to blame is himself.

The Departments operate under the legislation and the directions of the minister, the ultimate responsiblity and the only person to blame is Stanhope.
