At 06:54 today the Liberal Leader Zed Seselja sent out a statement congratulating his Queensland colleagues on their near-absolute obliteration of the Labor party at the State level.

(One can’t help thinking Campbell Newman would have had his release out 24 hours earlier)

Zed’s hoping something similar will happen here come October.

Take a look at the f***ups already occurring in Victoria and NSW!

Any idea that the Libs govern well is completely false and bogus.

Zed is dead baby, zed is dead!

Waiting for ANU’s Prof. John Wanna’s prediction for ACT election. He got it horribly wrong for Queensland.http://theconversation.edu.au/bligh-will-lose-in-queensland-but-it-wont-be-a-wipeout-5996

Except in the ACT, where your vote isn’t a fully transferable vote. So your preferences count for less than one vote. If you vote as suggested, all you would do is give your no. 1 preference to someone other than the person you actually wanted to vote for. (Of course, if you vote no.1 for someone who does get a quota, then a part of your vote goes to someone else with their excess quote – so your vote could indirectly support someone you didn’t even vote for just by bulking up the quota).

Well, that sucks.

And, a vote for Greens is a vote for ALP, at least indirectly through parliamentary agreements, and as shown by all the comments on forums like this about the Greens never supporting the Libs.

That, of course is a whole different problem. How an individual will vote on any one bill is of course what you should always be thinking about if you are voting. The Greens vote differently to Labor on some things, and exactly the same on many. But then Labor and the Libs vote the same on many things the Greens would like to get up, so from a right wing, militant, chook freeing, crop chopping, ultra greenie point of view, a vote for Labor might as well be a vote for the Liberals…

Spot on. A vote for Green is a vote for Labor anyway

Unless, you know, you actually take the time to number all the boxes. Then you can happily vote green so they know then have support, then direct the preference to someone who has a shot but isn’t in the labour party. In fact, you can even vote for one Labor person you like without needing to support a member of the party you like.

In Federal elections, your vote is fully transferable. It counts for one whole vote all the way through all your numbered preferences.

Seems like Zed is hoping to ride the wave of anti-Labor sentiment to shore without even kicking his legs.

Libs up in Canberra?

Not a chance. They may get one more representative but the Green vote will ensure an ALP victory by a comfortable margin.

Mr Seselja seems to forget that Newman actually did things as mayor.

We’d produce more of it if that gas power station and data centre had been built.

Many people voted Green in the last ACT election, and for that they elected 4 Green MLA’s. A vote for Green is a vote for Green.

Many voters are now concerned with Social, Economic, and Environmental issues, and mainly get to vote for Labor, Liberal, or Green candidates, depending on how they weigh up their main issues and how they think each party addresses those issues.

The ACT economy is the 2nd best economy in the nation behind WA and that’s saying something. Katy and the team aren’t doing too badly. Zed and his team of wannabes can’t be too keen to win the ACT election. The ACT Liberal website hasn’t been updated since their loss (only 31% of the vote) in 2008, only press releases whinging and whining about the ACT Labor party. Labor isn’t on the nose in Canberra and at least they update their website. Zed in bed

Zed is no Campbell Newman – not by a long shot. He has no track record at doing anything unlike Newman who was a successful Mayor of the biggest local government in the country.

On the Labor side, their are parallels between Anna Bligh and Katy G. Aside from both being females, both took over from very successful and long serving (male) leaders – who departed before they were hated by the electorate. However the educated urban, Sav Blanc socialists of the ACT are more idealistic and less blue collar than Qld and will not – repeat – will not desert the ALP like they have in Qld. (In Qld the voters BELIEVE what Tony Abbott says – in Canberra they generally DO NOT)

But the fact is that you can’t fail to know who Campbell Newman is and what he stands for – he’s made sure that the whole country and not just QLD gets the message. Zed needs to raise his profile, provide us with more info on policies and get more traction on letting us know what’s wrong with Labor polices. Katy is not as on the nose as Anna was – it’s hard to do anything too much wrong in such a small place. The well-educated but transient population will probably not help to change votes either. Finally, the Greens being as popular as they are, (albeit maybe on the downward slide) is never going to help the Libs into power – Labor and Greens will always band together. Libs can only hope that Labor are decimated as per QLD, because the way they are now is not going to get them across the line.

If they can’t do it this time then they need to take a serious look at themselves and decide who stays on. I’d expect his resignation if they lose again. Jeremy Hanson would be a good replacement as he’s the only one who takes the fight up to the government with any success.

Correct, Zed won’t be in Queensland; he will be campaigning hard in Canberra.
