Zed on the Hawke review and Neil Savery

Liberal Leader Zed Seselja is hinting at very serious allegations:

Suspicions that the review into the public service was all about ACT Labor removing the chief planner have been confirmed by the former Chief Minister Jon Stanhope and it appears this type of advice from the Chief Planning Executive wont be welcome under Katy Gallaghers leadership, Opposition Leader Zed Seselja said today.

It has long been suspected that the review was nothing but a transparent attempt to get rid of a public servant who dared stand up to the Government. Jon Stanhopes comments in the Canberra Times yesterday lend weight to this conclusion. Zed said.

Unfortunately, this is how ACT Labor treats people who dare criticise the way they do things. Neil Savery had the courage to challenge the Government and say that the planning process was being compromised. The consequences of this are that Neil Savery is no longer the Chief Planner in the ACT.

The extent of the animosity between Stanhope and Savery was well known to senior staff at ACTPLA for at least the last 18 months.

Umm. Labor and Greens have advertised in the Canberra Times too. One was even for Stanhope’s office while he was CM. I don’t know why, but they all seem to have trouble attracting the right calibre of flunkie at various times.

For Christ sake! Apostrophes? Commas?

Zed had an ad in The Crimes seeking a new advisor a few months ago. Ordinarily, advisors find you – not the other way around. Obviously he’s only been able to attract an illiterate flunky to put out garage like this media release.

Zed seriously needs to get some basic idea about how to hold a terrible government to account and put up a basic political alternative.

(Defamation writs and job offers may be forwarded via the RiotACT.)

I am shocked at the suggestion that the Stanhope government would get rid of someone who didn’t agree with them.

Zed doesn’t hint at it he states that the suspicions have been confirmed, so he in effect is stating it as fact. Hope he has some deep pockets when the defamation claim is brought.

It’s not defamation if it’s true.

Zed better hope he can prove it is true. I suspect that he doesn’t have proof and that it is a clumsily cobbled together media release.

I don’t think he’s got any proof, he was just having a silly whinge.

Although that doesn’t mean he’s wrong.

Then he could be in a lot of trouble.

not completely accurate – if it went to court, Zed would have to prove that it was true. There was a case several years ago where Jim Cairns and Junie Morosi sued a newspaper over claims they were having an affair. They won the defamation case only to later admit to having had the affair.

three post nut bag – morosi and cairns did not win the defamation case nor did they win the appeal *quietly slithers off to corner*

I suspect we will hear a lot more about this…I hope Zed understands that press releases are not covered by privilege.

Notable for the shortest sentence in a media release: “Zed said.” You have to love releases that haven’t been proofread.
