Zed pushing hard on timesheets now

Obviously feeling vindicated by the Mcleod Report into his timesheets Zed Seselja is now carrying on about the administration of Katy Gallagher’s staff:

Katy Gallagher today revealed that she was involved in an Industrial Relations Commission case because of timesheet issues in her office. Her most senior staff member tried to claim 800 hours of time off in lieu (TOIL) that they racked up under her watch, and the case was dropped because their timesheets were not in order. ACT Opposition Leader Zed Seselja said today this is rank hypocrisy from the Chief Minister who ran a shameless Anna Bligh style smear campaign, all the while hiding details of serious administrative breaches of her own.

“Katy Gallagher allowed her staff member to rack up 800 hours in TOIL because she didn’t ensure their timesheets were maintained, yet she called the Opposition’s timesheet delays the “biggest scandal in Territory history,’” Mr Seselja said today.

“This is rank hypocrisy and a reflection of Katy Gallagher’s true character. I publicly accepted responsibility for my office’s timesheet delays and rectified the situation. Katy Gallagher on the other hand did not see fit to mention that she was involved in an Industrial Relations Commission case over serious timesheet mismanagement until she was questioned about it today.

“Katy Gallagher must now answer questions including:

— How much did this case cost the taxpayer?
— How did a staff member accrue almost six months TOIL under her watch?
— Why was this never disclosed?

“It is blatantly clear why she refused to extend an audit to her own office, which she claimed in the Assembly ‘led the way in terms of adherence to timesheets within the building.’

The only people looking stupid now that this silly storm in a teacup has finally run out of steam are the Labor party, The Greens and their obliging lapdogs at The Canberra Times and ABC for trying to whip it up into a major story.

From the moment I saw this over-the-top hype I knew it was another anti-Liberal witchhunt by the leftist political and media Establishment in this polity. It fell completely flat when not even the Abbott/Lib hating peanut gallery could bother writing to The Canberra Times expressing mock outrage. In fact everybody smelt a rat and were completely unmoved.

Maybe it is a sign that the public has grown up and have fine-tuned their BS detectors that the whole thing was seen for what it was. A silly media driven diversion which has left Katy, The Canberra Times and their fellow travellers looking very stupid and red-faced indeed.

Strange, I thought you guys cared so much about mismanagement and incompetency from politicians. Suddenly it’s only a silly diversion.

There was some really great stuff in that post. I can’t decide if my favourite bit is “anti-Liberal witchhunt by the leftist political and media Establishment” or “Abbott/Lib hating peanut gallery”.

it’s not paranoia if they really are out to get you

Why does hypocrisy always have to be rank?

Good point. I prefer Blatant Hypocrisy myself, as it sounds a bit like flagrant hypocrisy.

There is gross hypocrisy too. But it seems that hypocrisy always needs an adjective, to emphasise its badness, at least when it’s a pollie speaking about another one.

+1 enrique, and for all levels of government!

To be honest, this type of bickering in politics really turns me off.

We saw it with the recent Kevin Rudd leadership challenge saga and we’re seeing it again here in the local assembly.

FFS – focus on the big picture issues and stop bickering about each other’s personal characteristics.

Turn the other cheek if someone else tries to smear you, don’t bring yourself down to their level by trying to smear them back.

Get back on the job of running the Territory.

Riotact quite frequently links to news on mainstream news sites, so this comment isn’t particularly salient.

“…the Chief Minister who ran a shameless Anna Bligh style smear campaign…” -Zed

I get the comparison, but this was nowhere near as bad as Premier Bligh’s pre-election smear campaign.

The questions Zed raises however, I would like to hear answered.
