Liberal Leader Zed Seselja is stepping up for a swing at the Joy Burch pinata:

In a slap in the face to the families left traumatised by the mismanagement and illegal actions of Joy Burch’s directorate, Katy Gallagher today effectively dismissed those concerns and proven illegality and backed her Minister by saying “in terms of her own responsibilities, she has fulfilled them, and she has fulfilled them to a very high standard.” (ABC Radio, 19 October 2011)

“This is an extraordinary lack of leadership and appalling lack of judgement” ACT Opposition Leader Zed Seselja said today.

“This was a fundamental failure of one of our most basic responsibilities to keep our kids safe.

“The facts are that Joy Burch’s department broke the law, they broke it knowingly and they broke it 24 times. How can this possibly be fulfilling her duty to a very high standard?

“These were not mere technical breaches, they resulted in children being placed in accommodation with no heaters, working stoves and broken glass on the floor. The result was children left ‘highly traumatised and suffering the effects of sometimes long term abuse and neglect’.

“It seems Katy Gallagher is far more concerned with keeping her Minister safe than keeping the kids safe.

“Not only is Joy Burch unfit to be a Minister, Katy Gallagher has shown a complete lack of leadership.

“Quite frankly, this would never have happened under Jon Stanhope.

Dunno about that last bit, Katy was not held responsible for some pretty horrible cockups with children in her time.

Our Chiefly (Incompetent) Minister has announced on the ABC telly that these problems are all down to ACT Pub Servs.

Nothing to do with the the miserable Burch!

How the hell this time serving party incompetent was aided by the arrogant inebriate to come from nowhere to poll above a proven (mostly) competent Mick Gentleman is something the Labor Party have to explain.

To be blaming everyone else for these f^&kups is so typical of the Stanhope and descendent local Gov.

Libs, – For everyones sake, get your act together. This current mob are sending us backwards.

Maybe the Motorists Party can inject some intelligence?

Is it too late to start a game of spot the Party hack/paid political staffer?

There are times when some politician (any party) does something so badly that I think it would be obvious to even the one-eyed party faithful.

Then I am brought back to reality by reactionaries like the ones this quote refers to – they seem to be able to blame the opposition (of either party) for daring to speak.

(Federal examples: Marshall Islands, Children Overboard)

Is it too late to start a game of spot the Party hack/paid political staffer?

And still there are no facts. We have one politician claiming that the facility had “no hot water” and “broken glass on the floor”.

Does anyone have a URL for the ACT Public Advocate that actually works? Google and Bing give me http://www.publicadvocate.act.gov.au/ which doesn’t work.

I wouldn’t go blaming the Liberals for the Government bringing down the site with the embarassing report on it.

Since when has The RiotACT been responsible for providing the facts to support either party’s arguments? Shouldn’t that be up to the politicians themselves?

Actually, never mind. Politicians wouldn’t know a fact if it jumped up and bit them in the face. They’re all about “self evident truths of our age.” (i.e.: that muslims are evil and boat people are illegal immigrants).

Government isn’t a business, and the opposition has a duty to hold the government accountable. That’s what they are there for.

Saying, “you’ve been bad” is not holding them accountable. There are no citations in Zed’s attention-whoring release. Where can the public go to find out what Zed’s all excited about?

Government isn’t a business, and the opposition has a duty to hold the government accountable. That’s what they are there for.

Thumper and PM: I confess that I haven’t looked into Burch’s case so I refuse to comment. I appreciate that I look like I have missed the point, but I was highlighting Zed’s repeated action of laughing and pointing whenever he gets the chance. Nelson “Ha Ha” Seselja

All I hear from him is “Jon was a fool, Katy is incompetent, the Government should be ashamed, they suck…” If anyone in private enterprise said such things about their competitors they would look completely unprofessional, petty and juvenile. In the real world people and institutions are judged on their own actions, not on their appropriate ridicule of their competitors.

Oh, and the incumbent is no better – if the shoe was on the other foot I am sure they would be doing the same, and I am not trying to gloss over their faults as it sounds like they have righteously f-cked up yet again.

I’m not pro-labor, just anti-d*ckwits.

You can think I’m a d*ckhead if you want, that doesn’t change my opinion of the politicians in this town.

Zed tweeted earlier today:
“@KatyGMLA has today failed the leadership test by backing Joy Burch despite appalling treatment of children and multiple breaches of law”

To which I replied:
“in business it looks unprofessional to criticise the competition. Success comes from your own actions, not other’s errors.”

For some reason this comment doesn’t show in the replies. I suspect that Mr Opposition doesn’t like it when the finger is pointed in the opposite direction.

No, he probably just reckons you’re a nob.

I’ve been under a rock recently… What laws were broken?

Geez… it’s a sad day when the opposition leader points to Stanhope and says “even HE wouldn’t have done that”.
