Aliens in Gold Creek?

Alien Fiend has sent this picture in with a note:

Anyone driving down Curran Drive (especially after dark when the neon strip lighting comes on) would have seen this UFO which has taken up residence adjacent to the Gold Creek Golf Club. Note the nuclear power system installed on the roof – hopefully only a matter of time before it takes off and returns to mars.

One wonders how many ouzos were consumed when this beast was dreamt up. And what (TF) ACTPLA were doing when they looked at (and approved?) the plans.

Went here with the family despite all efforts to make it impossible to find any info about it (a coarse yellow pages search led me to a fairly basic website, and once you’ve actually got there the brochure asks you to like them on facebook, where they don’t exist!!). For reference they’re at http://letsplay.net.au/

Its great – heaps of fun stuff for the kids to do, age appropriate areas – no traces of vomit in the ball pits, and most of all, adults get a free coffee for their $3.50 entry (and no, its not instant or filter – its better than most of the swill that costs more elsewhere!!).

And for reference, I have no affiliation to Lets Play, I’m just someone trying to help them with their lacklustre marketing for my own (and the little boy’s) selfish benefit…

Who wants a play centre in a boring brick building?! I have been past the new centre at night and I think it looks unreal- loving the bright lights and colours and can’t wait to see the inside once it opens… There are bigger problems in this world then a few bright lights, if that’s all you’ve got to complain about, consider yourselves very blessed.

I believe it looks extremely bland, the lights look out of place on the building let alone in the area.

Yes it is a children’s Indoor playground. The bright colours are designed to attract attention and be appealing to children. If your curious to see what the rest looks like it will be opening on the 2nd November.

Damn sight better than a lot of the public “art” around Canberra, and the taxpayer didn’t pay for it – or a least no more than we would for any other children’s play centre.

Looks like diarrhoea after swallowing paint.

My family and I had been wondering why an apparent ‘1970s squash court’ had suddenly appeared in 21st century suburbia. It’s design is certainly very out of kilter with its surroundings.

Yes, 1990s faux federation would have looked much better.

I, for one, think it looks great. Colourful and vibrant…fitting for a kids’ play centre.

Are you serious?

Sure, it’s a play centre and there’s nothing wrong at all with a kid’s play centre at Gold Creek. But this thing belongs at the Canberra show.

Why not build something in keeping with the rest of the club buildings?

This is a suburb and people look out of their houses at this. Can you imagine such a building turning up on the grounds of Federal, or Royal, or Yowani? People would have a fit!

Talk about an eyesore! I can also see it creating a hazard at night time. Bad form sports club, bad form!

The real flying saucer is on the grounds of UC – next to Sizzle Bentou shop.

My eyes!
