The Brumbies peculiar social media strategies have taken another strange turn with the unleashing on YouTube of “Brumbies Front Row Union Food Reviews”.
The first episode, Kingsley’s Steakhouse in Civic.
I’ve been to Kingsley’s quite a few times and although its a pretty good venue and they do a pretty good steak, they definitely charge you enough for it.
Went once, had very ordinary service, and the waiter and duty manager were aghast when I asked for a discount to reflect the fact that:
- when we ordered, we asked for our daughter’s mains to be brought with our entrees. They forgot about her order entirely.
- the steak my wife ordered was undercooked. She ordered well done; the steak could have been generously described as medium-rare.
- drinks orders were haphazard at best.
It was a lunchtime (a Sunday from memory). There were four tables in use, with three waiting staff. The owner was the Duty Manager. I thought I’d asked for a reasonable discount (asked them to waive my daughter’s meal, which was a hamburger); they reacted like I’d asked to be given a share of the business.
The only times I have returned has been for business related meals when someone else pays. When I’ve done the organising, it hasn’t received a look-in.
I had a drink there while waiting for friends, the drink was $6 I paid with a $10 note they never brought out my change and ignored me when I asked for it…
I’m sure they will report fully on vegetarian options in future editions. (They probably think that’s what the prawns are. Probably is the vegetarian meal at that place, by the look of it.)

I like vegetarian meals. They go great with steak.

If they spent as much time on improving their rugby skills rather than food reviews and real estate development, perhaps they wouldn’t be losing members at a rate of knots and posting $200,000 losses.

and the vegotroll is fed…yum!
Vegotroll is looking sickly and anemic. needs more protein.

Vegetarian meals are not food, it’s what food eats
I’m pretty sure they started eating out together specifically so they could discuss the dark art of scrumagging. So, yes, they are focused on rugby. Looking forward to the new season!
Can’t believe veg doesn’t come with the steak there! Crap!

The Charcoal Grill on London Circuit is better.

Maybe one day they’ll review the food that gets sold at Canberra Stadium.

Putting “special” fish on steak (like prawns or lobster) is a rather American thing, sad to see it here. Gilding the lilly to extremes.
Although back in the 70s we did have the venerable Carpet Bag Steak.
