Tuggeranong Masters Swimming Club will be holding a super swim weekend next weekend 16th and 17th March as part of swimmers preparations for the National Championships which are being held at Sydney Olympic Park on 17th – 20th April. However it is not specifically for those competing in Sydney, as other members and visitors are welcome.
There will be extra sessions conducted at Tuggeranong Leisure Centre, including a time trial and official’s courses held over the course of the weekend. The main aim will be to develop starts, turns and race practice.
On Saturday 16th March at 10am – 12.30pm there will be a normal endurance session. Tuggeranong Masters participate in the National Endurance 1000 award and trophy which encourage people to swim from 400m to one hour duration in a variety of strokes so as to improve aerobic fitness.
From 2pm – 3pm there will be a squad session focusing on starts and turns and improving techniques such as getting off the blocks quickly and finishing fast. In addition, relay changeovers to give flying starts will be practiced.
On Sunday 17th March from 10am – 12pm the techniques learnt on Saturday will be put into practice in time trial events and it will be time to go racing. There will be 50m, 100m and 200m events all of which will be choice of stroke.
From 5.20 – 6.30pm there will also be the normal squad session which is held every Sunday and this session will focus on sprinting.
The weekend will then finish off with a social get together and dinner at the Town Centre Vikings Club.
