1080 poison baits in Gungahlin?

I recently took a drive to Forde dog park to find out they place poison baits, sodium fluoroacetate 1080 in mulligans flat nature reserve to kill the foxes and rabbits. The warning signs say the baits are not placed within a 500m zone of human dwellings.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any other sites in Gungahlin that lay these poison baits?

I keep my pets secure but there is always a possibility of them escaping my property or lead. Just a bit paranoid as there is no antidote for 1080 and it can kill within hours.

Any info will be much appreciated.

Thanks for your response. I always keep my dog on the leash as she can bolt, be distracted, cross the road, encounter larger nastier dogs and all sorts of other things that can cause harm. I even walk my dog with a harness so i can easily pick her up in case of trouble and turn the other direction. Accidents can happen. She can slip from my grasp while popping her into the car or taking her inside. All it takes is a possum, an excitable Pomeranian, poor nature reserve fencing and a hole for her to land into trouble.

Make sure the leash is secure

A timely post, it could help out some people in this thread!

It is my understanding that the fox baiting program is only occurring within the Mulligans Flats Nature Reserve enclosure, of which dogs are prohibited. The aim of the enclosure is for the reintroduction of endangered and locally extinct wildlife.

As there are strict restrictions on the use of 1080, baiting is not to be carried out in urban areas and this would include the urban nature reserves, Mulligans Flat being enclosed with a predator proof fence would be exempt.

In the past few years however, fox baiting has occurred at Tidbinbilla NR, Googong Foreshores, Namadgi NP, Rob Roy and Gingerline NR, and outlining rural areas. The programs have to be well sign posted however, so you will be aware if baiting occurs again.

If you are a responsible pet owner ie only let dog off leash in appropriate areas and never let you pets stray you should have no issue with 1080.
