Seems like Canberra just isn’t getting enough of the golden oldies when it comes to movies. Dendy has their Cult Classics series, Palace has their Vintage Electric stuff and even Limelight gives it a fair go with their Limelight “Classics” (if you can count stuff like Mean Girls a classic). And now it appears the ANU Film Group has jumped on the bandwagon with the aptly titled Retro Revivals.
I’ve been a member for years and they always show old stuff alongside newer releases, but these appear to be special nights dedicated to old films. The Wizard of Oz was on there two Fridays ago and it was pretty impressive for an 80 year old movie. Coming up this week are Casablanca and Citizen Kane, two of my favourites and widely regarded as some of the best films of all time. And then there’s a bunch of other things on the horizon including The Sound of Music, Enter the Dragon and Beetlejuice.
Reasonable pricing from $15 for a week of movies. Worth a look if you’re keen to check out some favourites on the big screen.
