A 51-year-old man is facing six charges after allegedly abusing a child while he was their soccer coach.
Region has chosen not to name the man to avoid identifying his alleged victim.
ACT Policing will allege that the man met and abused the child over a number of years while he was a soccer coach in the early 2000s.
Following an investigation into the matter by ACT Policing’s Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team, the man was issued with a summons to appear before the Magistrates Court on Thursday (6 February).
He is facing five charges of having sexual intercourse with a child under 16 and one charge of committing an act of indecency on a person under 16.
The man did not appear in court on Thursday but was represented by his lawyer, who indicated her client would plead not guilty to all of the charges.
He will return to court in April.
