After some argie bargy through the week Mayor Rattenbury has made a joint statement with the Kingston Traders on the vexed issue of returning the green grass to Green Square despite the best efforts of some in the bureaucracy to throw spanners in the works:
A meeting between ACT Government officials and representatives from the Kingston Traders Association has resulted in an agreement about the installation of raised grass areas at Green Square in Kingston, said Minister for Territory and Municipal Services, Shane Rattenbury, today.
“I am pleased that TAMS has been able to reach agreement with the Kingston Traders Association who had asked the government to install the grassed areas in Green Square,” said Mr Rattenbury.
The Kingston Traders Association wrote to the government last year offering to pay for the installation and maintenance of grass in Green Square. The Chief Minister agreed to the proposal from the Association and asked TAMS to work with them on the project.
Pawl Cubbin, a spokesman for the Kingston Traders Association and part-owner of the buildinghousing Green Square’s newest pub, Little Brooklyn, is pleased with the breakthrough and thegovernment’s commitment to move forward quickly.
