Independent Living Centre Stifled.

As a (very) occassional supplier of goods to the Independent Living Centre, I have received a letter from the management detailing a number of Government decisions impacting on the service.

The Independent Living Centre supplies a wide variety of impliments, appliances and advice to mobility reduced clients to allow them to lead as normal a life as possible. A large number of the devices on offer are invented, designed and built locally by volunteers.

Their display centre in Weston is to be relocated to the closed Village Creek Primary School in Kambah. This site is to be refurbished for occupancy in December 2009, but work is yet to commence.

The area is smaller than their existing premises, so a review is taking place to work out what displays can be given the flick. There will be no dedicated reception area, and clients will enter via a centralised reception service. Apparently questions remain regarding physical access to and from the new site.

This does appear to be a case of the Council riding roughshod over a small, enthusiastic and in demand group. Surely our disabled and infirm deserve better treatment than this.
