Eating breakfast at a hotel restaurant is just not something I have ever thought about doing, unless I’m actually staying in the hotel. This week I was thinking about where I would like to have breakfast; I wanted somewhere new because I eat out a lot. While I was thinking about it, all the usuals popped into my mind … and then I remembered that a very dear friend of mine runs the restaurant at the Waldorf hotel in the city. I wasn’t even sure if they did actually serve breakfast so I contacted him to find out and ended up booking myself a table for one.
I went in at 7:30am which I think is pretty early, I was half expecting to be the only one in the restaurant but to my surprise it quickly filled with hotel guests and walk-ins. It was a nice atmosphere and I loved sitting against the big glass windows – such a great place to people watch!
I ordered my usual latte which came out in a flash and was a fantastic cup of coffee. We were off to a good start! When my order was being taken, I was umming and ahhing about what I wanted, I was going to go for the big breakfast but was persuaded by Callum (the fabulous restaurant manager) to try the breakfast bruschetta; avocado, roast tomato, and poached eggs on sourdough, topped with shaved parmesan and a drizzle of olive oil. I actually had to double take the menu, I couldn’t believe the most expensive breakfast item was $18 (Big breakfast).
While waiting for breakfast I sipped on my perfectly made latte and watched people outside as they made their way through the city. Breakfast also came out quite quickly, not only did it look incredible but it was incredible and really fresh. A very delicious meal! I was so impressed I text a picture to all my friends.
I don’t know why, I just didn’t have very high expectations of a hotel restaurant but gosh was it good! Coffee was great, the breakfast bruschetta was fantastic. It was just an all-round great experience. The Waldorf is also really easy to access with a huge public car park directly across the road. I really liked the menu and the option of a continental buffet breakfast; it means that everyone can have something they like.
I really just can’t get over how good it was, so make sure you check out the Waldorf restaurant as a café hot spot and be sure to say hi to Callum.
