The Independent Property Group Foundation and the Returned and Services League of Australia ACT Branch (RSL ACT) have been announced as the two official charity partners for Floriade 2015.
RSL ACT aligns with the Floriade 2015 theme of Reflection, which commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Anzac landings in Gallipoli.
The local charity will enable this year’s visitors to pay tribute to service men and women by placing a poppy on The Reflection Wall, with funds raised through the sale of poppies going towards their work in the community.
Branch President Peter Eveille said RSL ACT was delighted to partner with Floriade.
“Floriade is Canberra’s biggest event and we feel honoured to be involved in what is a fitting tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings,” Mr Eveille said.
The Independent Property Group Foundation returns for the second year as a Floriade charity partner following the debut success of My Cubby House Rocks, which raised more than $45,000 for Canberra’s Boundless Playground and the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children in 2014.
Canberra companies Koundouris & CIC, Anita Constructions & Kasparek Architects, Lend Lease, Geocon & Cox and Construction Control have constructed five architecturally-designed cubby houses, which will be auctioned and raffled off on October 10.
Independent Property Group CEO John Runko said the foundation was glad to be back in 2015.
“The support we received from Canberra builders and designers was staggering last year and I’m happy to say that support has been matched again this year,” Mr Runko said.
“There are some great designs which I’m sure the kids will love exploring, including a Lego café, a sheriff’s office and Japanese-inspired house.”
Arts, Business, Tourism, Events and Sport Acting Deputy Director-General Louise Gilding welcomed Independent Property Group Foundation and RSL ACT on board.
“The two charities will enhance Floriade’s unique atmosphere with a range of activities designed to raise awareness of their important causes,” she said.
“I thank them for their involvement in Floriade 2015 and I encourage visitors to show their support for these great local charities.”
Floriade commences this Saturday 12 September and runs until Sunday 11 October.
