ANU has let it be known that their Professor of Geophysics Kurt Lambeck has been awarded the Legion of Honour:
Professor Lambeck, of the Research School of Earth Sciences, was recognised for his contribution to the field of science and for his strong ties to France.
He first visited France in the 1970s to help set up the French (CNES) program in geophysics, and spent nearly eight years working in France, including at the Institut de Physique du Globe (IPGP). During his time at ANU, he has continued to work closely with researchers from CNES and IPGP and is a frequent visitor to France.
Professor Lambeck says he is humbled to be a recipient of the award.
“I am delighted to accept this award and humbled to join a very impressive group of Australians who have been awarded the Legion of Honour,” he said.
The order, established by Napoleon in 1802, is awarded for excellent civil or military conduct.
