An early morning fatal truck smash has partially closed the Hume Highway at Oolong, about 35 km east of Yass.

About 1:15am (Thursday 13 February 2025), emergency services were called to the Hume Highway, near Pedell Lane, Oolong, following reports of the accident.

Officers attached to The Hume Police District attended and found a B-Double truck had left the roadway and rolled, before a second B-Double truck travelling behind crashed into the rear.

The male driver of one of the trucks died at the scene.

The second driver is in a critical condition.

All southbound traffic has been diverted to the Federal and Barton Highways and one of two northbound lanes is closed. Heavy vehicles larger than a 26m B-double are being parked.

Police have established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The ongoing police investigations are expected to take some time and motorists are being advised to avoid the area if possible.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
