A child’s death at the Canberra Hospital has been referred to the ACT Coroner for investigation.

No details have been provided of when the child was taken to hospital or the circumstances around their death.

When asked about the incident, Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said she couldn’t provide further information due to privacy considerations and the current investigation.

“The death of any child is a tragedy and our thoughts are with the family at this really, really difficult time,” she said.

“I also want to assure people that the staff who were involved in this are receiving support.”
