Military and emergency services clothing specialist Australian Defence Apparel (ADA) opened its new multi-function logistics hub at Hume on 13 April.

The new 5000-square-metre facility will specialise in Australian Federal Police and Australian Border Force uniforms. It has a large showroom, store, warehouse facility and office space, and stocks more than 300,000 items.

The company says its uniform supply and management services contract includes the design and engineering of uniforms and inventory management, and will be able to accommodate tailoring, returns and exchanges.

“The official opening of the ADA Canberra Commonwealth Hub is instrumental in delivering on our commitment to combine leading textiles and new technologies to best serve our diverse clientele,” ADA CEO Chris Dixon said in a release.

“We trust that the ADA Canberra Commonwealth Hub will allow ABF and AFP personnel to receive the highest quality care and service, complemented by high-tech apparel systems to allow them to perform their duties with comfort and ease and take less time away from work duties.

“We are delighted to open this state-of-the-art, multi-purpose facility that includes an expansive showroom, store, warehouse facility and office space. The facility provides a unique and seamless experience for fitting, kitting and distribution.”

ADA is Australia’s largest and primary manufacturer of garments for the Australian Defence Force, and its range of services also extends to healthcare and corporate industries.

The company has also developed the ergonomic ADF Soldier Combat Ensemble and Load Carriage Equipment, a range of harnesses and packs that allow soldiers to carry heavy external loads while reducing the physical impact of carrying the loads.

Most of ADA’s clothing items are manufactured in Australia at its Bendigo facility in Victoria, which employs about 130 people and produces around 16,000 items per month.

A division of ADA, LEGEAR specialises in the rapid acquisition and supply of commercial off-the-shelf specialist tactical equipment and apparel for a wide range of government agencies and private organisations, and is managed by current and former law enforcement and military personnel.

The company says it is proud to be accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia, which it gained in 2000. The accreditation ensures all of ADA’s local textile workers throughout its supply chain receive at least their minimum entitlements and work in safe conditions.
