Bimberi detainee on the run for three hours after hospital escape

A 17-year-old Bimberi Youth Detention Centre detainee has been recaptured after he escaped from Canberra Hospital and went on the run for three hours on Monday morning (26 August).

Around 2:00 am, the teenager escaped custody at the Canberra Hospital where he was receiving medical treatment.

An extensive police search of the immediate area was conducted, as well as patrols being dispatched to various locations in an attempt to locate the detainee.

Numerous police resources from across the ACT were utilised during the search, including the AFP Canine Team.

Investigations led police to locate the teenager on Parkes Way, Acton around 5:10 am.

He was arrested and will face the ACT Children’s Court charged with escape from arrest or custody.
