Brumbies final in Canberra Centenary year. Public screenings?

By perfectplay - 30 July 2013 9

I am wondering if the ACT government will be preparing anything to celebrate the Brumbies making the final?

Should we not be putting this on the big screen in Garema place (or similar) in this our 100th year?

Please tell me that there is something being done and if not, what is the best option for our passionate supporters to watch this game together as a whole community?

What’s Your opinion?

Ha, and good luck cancelling without having to go through several attempts to make you stay! Cancelling Foxtel was like pulling teeth…

We got told by Foxtel if we cancelled we might as well throw our TV away – that’s a nice way to change our mind :/

Ill let you know Monday how easy/hard it was to cancel. But so far, works straight away after signing up. Only been charge $10 as a ‘test the credit card charge’ so far, all the terms and conditions say that I wont be charged until after the 7 free days and can cancel at any time.

So far so good, so long as Grapevine stays up Saturday evening…

Hmmm, I’ve only just read on their site that you can cancel online – that’s definitely a change since I was with them, when the only way to cancel was to ring up and speak to someone who’d try every trick in the book to get you to stay. For someone who wanted to watch the game and had an ok internet connection, it’s probably not as painful a choice as I initially thought it might be.

Or sign up for Foxtel Play, which very conviently got launched today. No contracts, 7 days free for new customers.

Watch rugby on home theatre PC, ring up on Monday and cancel, no costs. That’s my plan.

That was my plan for the London Olympics last year. Unfortunately the Games straddled July and August and I had to pay for two months. When I phoned to cancel they said it would be effective on Sept 2nd, a sneaky ploy to get me to pay for a third month until I pointed that out and they cancelled it immediately.

Ha, and good luck cancelling without having to go through several attempts to make you stay! Cancelling Foxtel was like pulling teeth. They even called back on the pretence of confirming my address for the iQ box pickup (like they didn’t have my details online…), then had another go at offering me a special deal!

That Foxtel Play is a joke too. If you want to watch sport, say the NRL, you’re up for $50/month, plus a stack of useless channels that you don’t want or need. Exactly why I now have an offshore VPN provider which gives me access to livestream.

I think your best bet is heading to a pub or club with a big screen, and watching it there. You’ll definitely find fellow supporters there, and will get the atmosphere you’re after. Plus you get to enjoy a beveridge while you’re watching – something I’m not sure would fly in Garema Place.

Getting the foxtel public performance rights would be non-trivial as well.

Book a table at Debacle or get to Duxton early (like at noon) would be my tips

jase! 1:17 pm 30 Jul 13

that is a fantastic idea

and it won’t happen because this government couldn’t organise an even *that* size in a week
