The Big Steal (Nadia Tass, 1990)

PG | 99 Mins | 1990 | 35mm |AUS | D: Nadia Tass

Teen Danny Clarke (Ben Mendelsohn) wants only two things: a Jaguar and a date with Joanna Johnson (Claudia Karvan), the prettiest girl in his high school. Unfortunately his scheme to get both by trading in the Nissan his parents gave him and impressing Joanna with a Jaguar XJ6 doesn’t exactly go to plan.

This classic Australian comedy from director Nadia Tass highlights the risks of doing anything for love.

‘Mendelsohn’s combination of vulnerability and bravado is a consistent delight’ – Time Out
