On Saturday 08-APR-06 we did the Civic Public Art Walking Tour and lived to tell the tale.

And so, I present to you item # 35, Tango, by Michael Le Grand. Its on London Circuit, across the road from the Police Station.

Tango - by Michael Le Grand

It’s one of those great pieces of abstract art which takes on a whole new life once you learn the title.

Ugh, I messed up that html code good and proper. Try again:

Vic, have you seen the Craigieburn bypass at night? The installations turn from “visual stuff” into a fantastic light show:

Even the Light Horse Interchange on the new Westlink M7 in Sydney is a visual marvel for what is essentially concrete and asphalt:

Been on the new Cragieburn Bypass Les? It’s been opened since late Dec 2005 I think. Not so much art, but visual stuff that breaks up your typical suburban bypass.

As as to the original topic, I don’t mind seeing the pics. I had no idea all this ‘stuff’* was lying around Civic. I rarely go there.

*stuff is rubbish in my eyes, but others get pleasure from it and sort of makes the place interesting, so it’s OK.

On the topic of public art, I must admit that the freeways in Melbourne have some of the most aesthetically pleasing backdrops (artworks) that I have seen. Ideas like those wouldn’t go astray on the Tuggeranong Parkway, which these days is as visually stimulating as beige carpet.

so how much longer are we going to have to endure these “episodes” of public art? I never realised until now just how much ugly crappy metal “art” things there are around our city…
