For almost 20 years, family-owned and operated Ideal Building Solutions has been making dreams come true all across the Canberra region.

Paul and Michele Elword started their boutique building company in 2002, and while they have expanded during the past almost two decades, they plan to remain small enough to continue offering personalised service for every client.

Michele says they are a “family building company, providing quality over quantity”.

“When people come to talk to us about their home, they are dealing with people who own the business,” she says.

“We’re the ones they talk to all the way through the design and build process.

“It’s a more personal experience and we strive to make the process of building a new home exciting and as stress-free as possible.”

The couple’s son, Jarrod, a builder, has joined the team, while daughter Hannah is Michele’s right-hand when it comes to running the business.

Michele, who styles their display homes, says many people like to deal with a woman who understands the building process and can also help out with the finer design details.

“Some people know exactly what they want, whereas others need a bit of guidance,” she says.

“We offer a very personalised service and can help come up with what the client wants. Often we have three or four meetings – sometimes up to seven – to come up with the final plan.

“We meet onsite to work out how the home will best make use of the elevation and aspect, and combine that with the client’s ideas.

“It’s a real partnership right from the start and we ensure we’re always communicating with the client so they know exactly where the build is up to and what to expect.”

Ideal Building Solutions has a range of home designs on offer, but the majority of their builds are custom designed or reworked versions of their display homes.

They also specialise in rural homes and can make building off-the-grid easier by helping owners choose a solar solution that best suits their property and budget.

As GreenSmart Accredited and award-winning builders, Michele says Ideal Building Solutions aims to make all their homes as energy efficient and sustainable as possible within the client’s budget.

Double-glazed windows and quality insulation are standard inclusions, and they encourage clients to install solar panels.

“We buy north-orientated blocks for our house and land packages to make the most of the solar energy,” says Michele.

One of their recently completed display homes, ‘The Chifley’, has just been listed for sale at Googong and features sustainable, environmental and energy efficient aspects such as solar panels, LG storage battery for solar power, induction cooktop, heat pump hot water system, double-glazed windows with UPVC framing, and a demand monitor system for the solar panels.

The beautiful show home at 31 Courtney Street in Googong has plenty of wow factor.

The grand, solid timber front door welcomes you to ‘The Chifley’, and the entry foyer boasts an incredible 4.8 metre-high raked ceiling, and the front loungeroom will take your breath away with a stunning northeast facing corner window flooding the room with sunlight.

There is also an impressive stone feature wall with built-in electric fireplace.

Sales agent Rad Trpkovski, from Ideal Building Solutions, says before visitors even walk down the home’s hallway, they are “blown away” by the stand-out features.

“They walk in and just say, ‘Wow, wow, wow,’” he says.

Rad says the four-bedroom home is a stunning property for a family, with the segregated master bedroom offering a parents’ retreat at the front of the home, including glass doors opening onto a private courtyard area.

“Nowadays people really want a master suite that is separate from the kids,” he says.

“In this home, the parents have their own space to unwind and have breakfast on the patio – it’s beautiful.”

The open plan family and kitchen area flows out onto an alfresco entertaining area with built-in kitchen barbecue which is ideal for family gatherings.

“The kitchen comes with a walk-in pantry, integrated Smeg dishwasher, built-in microwave, induction cooktop and stunning 12mm Dekton stone benchtops and splashback,” says Rad.

He says the home has been “specked-up” within the show home budget, with high-end features and finishes designed by Michele.

“There are some really special features such as the timber internal doors and hardwood panelling in the kitchen and ensuite,” says Rad.

Three display homes have already sold in the street for more than $1 million and Rad says this home offers a superior fit-out and a larger 569-square-metre block.

“This is a unique opportunity to own a showpiece home with luxury inclusions and high-end quality finishes in sought after Googong,” he says.

The home is being sold on a leaseback scheme where Ideal Building Solutions will rent the property back from the buyer until the display village closes.
