ACT Policing is reminding Canberrans attending Thoroughbred Park to celebrate ‘the race that stops the nation’ to drink responsibly.
Officer in Charge Sergeant Daryl Neit said that patrons of the event have acted responsibly in the past and police were looking forward to similar crowd behaviour this year.
“If you drink alcohol excessively your potential of becoming a victim of crime greatly increases.” he said.
“All we ask is that if patrons drink, then drink responsibly, plan ahead and utilise public transport or organise a lift home. We want people to have a good time, but not at the expense of others.
“If members of the community plan to drink alcohol, then they need to ensure they make alternative arrangements for ‘post-race’ transportation.” Sergeant Neit said.
ACT Policing will have a high-visibility presence at the venue and a strong presence in and around Civic and other licensed venues as patrons continue their celebrations.
Targeted and random breath testing will be conducted across Canberra.
