I can’t actually remember the last time this happened but we meeja reptiles have been informed that:

The ACT Government Public Information Coordination Centre (PICC) will be operational at the ESA HQ tomorrow morning from 10 o’clock due to it being the third straight day of extreme heat and increased fire danger in the ACT.

When the PICC is activated all communications staff you would usually deal with at various ACT Government Directorates are redeployed to work in the PICC for the ACT Government rather than their usual organisation.

This means they won’t be on hand to deal with your day-to-day inquiries as normal.

Here’s hoping they’re just using this as a training exercise more than anything.

I’m sure twitter and other social media would be quicker to alert on fires around Canberra,
but here’s the linky to the SES incident map.

Excellent initiative towards being prepared!

Good call whoever made it.

Sure, there will be the odd disgruntled person that has to leave a message rather than speak to one of these communication staff directly for a while but so what. This is a good bit of foresight and planning.
