Small is Beautiful documentary screening

I’d love to go but am not in the market for a tiny house and $20 is a bit steep for a casual interest.

As an ex-architect I can tell you that I never had a client who wanted less, it was always more and and the worst kind of more. Sadly we live in an age where quantity is all that is valued. Quality, sufficiency and good design are too subtle for most.

It is exhausting and unbelievably difficult to battle against all the appalling local government regulations and institutions AS WELL as builders and tradespeople who are simply not interested in changing their ways, nor of even doing a job they can be proud of.

If you are lucky enough to live in Victoria there are several companies that build and deliver excellent well designed prefab houses. They are usually compact (not actually tiny) and well laid out, as well as very energy efficient when correctly oriented.

Unfortunately it is expensive to get them shipped to the ACT and NSW, areas where there is a very low standard of design and building. Wish they would licence their designs to local carefully chosen builder/manufacturers.

I’ve been fascinated by tiny houses for a few years now… I have dreams of finding a big block of land somewhere near Canberra with stunning views and building my own little house to go on top.
