UPDATE 2:45 pm – ACT Policing has confirmed testing is being conducted on the substance found in a package at a mail sorting facility in Fyshwick.
Officers and emergency services crews responded to the incident on Nyrang Street earlier this morning (see below).
An ACT Policing spokesperson said the substance was being assessed.
“Police remind the public that using the mail system to threaten or seek to intimidate a person is an offence and instances will be investigated thoroughly,” they said.
It’s believed the package was addressed to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
ACT Fire and Rescue hazmat crews assisted with the response, and left the scene at about 1:30 pm.
10 am – Hazmat operations are underway in Fyshwick to identify what’s inside a suspicious package reportedly addressed to the Prime Minister.
AFP and ACT Fire and Rescue hazmat crews were called to the Nyrang Street Australia Post sorting facility at about 6:10 am this morning (4 April).
It’s believed the package contained a white powder, with testing underway to determine if it’s explosive, poisonous or a hoax.
