Hidden away on a gentle ridgeline, 101 Barrabooka North Road offers 22 acres of carefully cleared open parkland and native coastal forest at Tanja in the Bega Valley.

Owner of Marshall and Tacheci Real Estate, Robert Tacheci, says a perfect blend of luxury and simple practicality makes ‘Highclear’ extra special.

“As soon as you walk through the beautiful stonewall entry, it’s easy to imagine yourself living on this property,” he says.

“The contrast between living spaces provides a great breadth of experience and diversity.”

There are two dwellings, an owner-planned pavilion that could easily be used as a guest studio or set aside as a private master suite and a charming cottage.

Centre stage is the pavilion, a spacious, open-plan quarters complete with its own bathroom and kitchenette. Floor-to-ceiling windows take advantage of the site’s sunny location, creating a light, airy feel.

A quiet bedroom nook preserves private space below the unique mezzanine loft, which Robert says could be used for a library, storage or retreat seating.

Outside, a custom open fireplace and stone feature wall on the expansive patio create the perfect space to enjoy starry coastal nights with friends and family.

“The entertainment deck is striking. It’s inviting in a multiplicity of ways – you could set up a barbeque station, outdoor dining or spa,” Robert says.

“Parkland-style gardens surround the whole pavilion and there’s a huge garage behind, with more than enough room to store private vehicles and equipment alongside potential workshop space.”

For especially enthusiastic tinkerers, the original studio and adjoining corrugated iron shed are still standing. Complemented by a small woodshed and garden shed, the area served as a workshop for the previous owner, a professional sculptor.

Just a short walk from the guest studio is the original three-bedroom home.

Parkland cottage style creeps in from the outdoors in the form of timber-lined ceilings, with the quaint kitchen-dining area opening out onto a sunny, coast-facing veranda. A strip of blue can be seen in the distance above the healthy native treeline.

“Two small dams are connected by a dry rock creek bed landscaped by the current owner,” Robert says.

“It provides the perfect opportunity to water the enclosed vegetable garden, especially for those looking to run a kitchen garden or practise self-sufficiency with a touch of luxury.

“This is a beautiful and diverse property in a secluded locality by a national park, just waiting for a young family, nature lover or retired couple to make it their own.”

Tanja is a small yet vibrant coastal community with its own primary school. The valley is situated for easy travel to Tathra in the south, Bega to the southwest and Bermagui up north.
