Andrew Barr and Chris Bourke have released a statement about the government’s dealing with the Australian Education Union.
The deal will see teachers promoted based on performance not after their placement time has finished.
That’s why in this agreement we are putting an end to the long slow march of career advancement within the teaching profession with new teacher leader positions, we are removing the current
requirement for teachers to transfer at the end of their placement period
Mr Barr said.
He also said teaching staff will get a pay rise:
The Government will now pay some of our best classroom teachers $100,000
The deal will also allow school principles greater freedom in selecting teachers to meet needs.
It still has to be voted in by ACT teachers. The government expects this will happen in February 2012.
