The Australian Hellzapoppin’ Prize is an Australia-wide competition to support the development of Lindy Hop and swing dancing. This year Canberra hosts the Australian Hellzapoppin’ Prize for the first time.

Named after the 1940s film of the same name, the Australian Hellzapoppin’ Prize captures the energy of the Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers whose high-energy routine was one of the first swing dance sequences captured on film. Check them out on YouTube.

Even if you are not a swing dancer, this competition will entertain and amaze, with speeds up to 320 beats per minute and some amazing tricks, aerial steps and musicality. With $1000 prize money there can be only one winning couple in this knockout action-packed swing event.

Manu Smith, a world-reknowned swing dancer and DJ from the USA, will be the head judge. Live music from the Michael Knight Jazz Trio keeps the joint hoppin’ between competition rounds.

Bar service provided by our friends at the George Harcourt Inn with Cafe L’il on hand with hot drinks and snacks.

Entry $35/$10 children under 16
Doors open at 7pm, competition starts at 8pm sharp
