What is the best way to celebrate the opening of a family-friendly German restaurant in Canberra?

With 500 free hotdogs, of course.

The Bavarian will open its doors on the ground floor of the new Bradley Street restaurant precinct at Westfield Woden on 18 April with 500 free hotdogs to the first 500 people through its doors to celebrate its debut in the nation’s capital.

Described as a “true taste of Bavarian hospitality, from cultural hints in the interior décor to quintessential dishes and a range of international and local beers”, the delectable menu offers something for everyone.

The mouth-watering morsels include traditional Bavarian favourites such as The Bavarian’s legendary crispy pork knuckle and crackling pork belly to a range of classic German and gourmet sausages, shared platters, an assortment of schnitzels and the not-to-be-forgotten hotdogs.

The menu is complemented by 20 beers on tap, including imported Bavarian favourites Lowenbrau, Franziskaner, Stiegl and Hofbrau, along with a range of Australian and international craft brews.

The Bavarian Woden is Rockpool Dining Group’s 28th Bavarian restaurant in Australia and first restaurant in the ACT. CEO Thomas Pash said he was thrilled to be expanding the Group’s footprint to the ACT and bringing quintessential German flavours to the Capital.

“Our Bavarian restaurants have a large and loyal following across the country and we’re thrilled to be bringing our first daily-deal packed destination to another state,” Mr Pash said.

“We have created 45 full-time and casual positions and supported the local economy by engaging around 50 professionals and tradespeople on the project and we look forward to getting to know the local community.”

The contemporary, casual restaurant can accommodate 300 guests, including 60 seats outdoors. Its interior design reflects Bavarian heritage, with stone walls, alpine finishes and large, communal wood tables.

Signature details include a custom-designed, vintage beer barrel wall and an impressive beer stein chandelier holding over 500 1-litre glass steins suspended above the bar.

Happy hour, every day from 4 – 6 pm with $5 beers.

The restaurant will also provide dinner specials from Sunday to Wednesday:

On Mondays, it’s a chicken burger and drink of choice ($15), a two-for-one deal on any regular schnitzel on Tuesdays and refillable All You Can Meat platters ($35 per person) every Wednesday. The focus turns to families on Sunday, with children under the age of 12 eating for free from the kids’ menu with a paying adult.

A generous happy hour will also run from 4 pm to 6 pm every day with $5 beer, wine and spirits and $1 chicken wings. That’s right, $1 chicken wings.

Prost!
