On Monday the entire town of Beaconsfield (or so it would appear) will be flying into town for a reception in Parliament House.
The Canberra Times is reporting invitations for what is obviously going to be THE party of the year went out on Tuesday. I guess that means if you haven’t received yours yet, you’ll have to dress up in overalls, hard hat and head torch and try and sneak in.
The men themselves will be at the reception, along with every man and his dog who had anything to do with the mining disaster and subsequent rescue. After the gala whatever, Todd and Brant will fly off the New York to be interviewed by Diane Sawyer for the American ABC.
The Beaconsfield high school principal said “the journey would be as important as the destination”, presumably referring to the fact that Qantas, Jet Star and Virgin have donated planes and staff to fly the townsfolk up to the big smoke.
The timing of the two-hour reception has not been disclosed to small-time media plebs like us, so if you want to go your best bet is probably to take a public tour early and hang round til they turn up.
Now where’s my head torch gone…
