The Todd and Brant Show comes to Canberra

By Kerces - 25 May 2006 16

On Monday the entire town of Beaconsfield (or so it would appear) will be flying into town for a reception in Parliament House.

The Canberra Times is reporting invitations for what is obviously going to be THE party of the year went out on Tuesday. I guess that means if you haven’t received yours yet, you’ll have to dress up in overalls, hard hat and head torch and try and sneak in.

The men themselves will be at the reception, along with every man and his dog who had anything to do with the mining disaster and subsequent rescue. After the gala whatever, Todd and Brant will fly off the New York to be interviewed by Diane Sawyer for the American ABC.

The Beaconsfield high school principal said “the journey would be as important as the destination”, presumably referring to the fact that Qantas, Jet Star and Virgin have donated planes and staff to fly the townsfolk up to the big smoke.

The timing of the two-hour reception has not been disclosed to small-time media plebs like us, so if you want to go your best bet is probably to take a public tour early and hang round til they turn up.

Now where’s my head torch gone…

What’s Your opinion?

Wouldn’t it have been easier to have the thing in Launceston and fly the politicians down there?

Personally, I’m more peeved off that our beloved federal government has decided to waste more time and money on this saga. It’s very nice that they’re out of the ground now, and that they’re getting large chunks of cash from the media.

However, lugging them up to Canberra so that a bunch of pollies can get a couple of photo opportunities that show them being in touch with “real people” (you know, the ones that don’t live here) is a waste of everybody’s time.

Yep.

I actually would say no.

I think the bogan statements might have something to do with the fact that Todd and Brant are bogans.

wonsworld 2:21 pm 26 May 06

why not cash in on it .. are you saying that if you were in their position that you would knock it back and say no? and what bogans, shannon noll and ugh boots have to do with this is beyond me.

Two blokes got trapped in a mine and are now cashing in on their “supposed” interesting story: basically I’m sick of hearing about it.

I’m glad they survived and all that, but I’m over hearing about it.

And what about the guy who died in this accident: everyone seems to have forgotten about Larry in this media beatup.

They should put on a concert in Kambah to highlight the struggle of lower/middle class Austraya. Get Brant and Todd down there with Eddie “Moneybags” Maguire and “Nollsy” up on stage. Free uggboots and wife beaters for all!

Maybe I’m missing the sarcasm here but I think you guys are out of line

Anyway, what sort of name is “Brant”? Sounds like his parents couldn’t decide between Brent or Grant.

Pandy 10:21 pm 25 May 06

Now then, show some respect. These folk are “real” people, not like us Fake Canberra People. I’m sure they’ll be saying that during their visit.

Thumper 12:17 pm 25 May 06
