Win Digital TV Signal Fail?

By ace2279 - 5 December 2011 7

While trying to watch the cricket over the weekend (Friday and Saturday) I found that the digital signal for WIN was non-existent in Kambah!!

After numerous re-scans of the channels I was able to get every channel BUT those broadcast by WIN/Nine (none of their channels would come up). When they did come up the signal was so bad that it wasn’t worth watching. I ended up watching it on the analogue channel in all its snowy glory.

I have an outdoor antenna and the signal is running through a booster at the TV end. I was using the inbuilt tuner on my Panasonic Plasma TV.

I’m not under Mt Taylor in Kambah, I’m over the other side of Drakeford near Urambi Hill. I rarely watch FTA TV but I do remember not having any broadcast issues when watching the NRL on WIN.

Anyone else having the same issues? With Analogue TV being phased out – what’s the guarantee that this wont happen again?? Any help/advice on fixng the problem (if it is indeed mine and not WIN’s) would be great!

What’s Your opinion?

Try West Macgregor for permanently interrupted reception..Have yet to get ABC, SBS, Ten, Seven, and Nine all to work in unison on the one night..Nine is especially bad- it usually konks out just as the ball is kicked off in the first second of the first State of Origin..;( Lay money on it- every year, same issue..

Capital ..er..Southern Cross – whatever they call it this week is shocking in Gordon on HDTV, HD set top box and analogue. Don’t know what the cause is, but it’s very hard to watch the huge amount of nothing on at the moment.

I can’t wait until the day analogue is shut down and they can crank the digital signal strength up. The dodgy signals problems we are having here are quite unacceptable.

More info? Is the signal strenght of the digital signal limited by the analogue signal? If so, yeah – bring it on!

Sure I read (on RA no less) some expert chiming in to a similar discussion a few years back saying that the digital signal strength was dialled back while analogue is still going because the former interferes with the latter. That’s all I know about it. Apart from being heartily sick of crappy reception and not being able to properly record shows…

I’m also on the West side of Kambah (where there ain’t no 10 commandments), and the WIN signal breaks up regularly. However its usually the ABC channels that are unwatchable at the slightest hint of rain.

I have luckily moved recently from a property north of Canberra, where digital TV it seemed depended totally on which direction the wind was blowing.
I was in Kingston for the weekend and had no problems with the WIN channels. I was able to watch the cricket only interrupted by the kids wanting to go to Manuka to watch the one day game there.
