Nightclubbing 13 year old busted unconscious

The ABC is aghast the level of underage drinking police have uncovered around town.

An ACT Police campaign against underage drinking in licensed premises has found an 13-year-old girl unconscious on a couch in city bar.

…

They have highlighted the case of the 13-year-old as an ‘appalling’ example but also report finding 27 underage people in a Tuggeranong pub last saturday night.

Suddenly axing the Liquor Licensing Board doesn’t look so clever does it?

Where did it say anything about “late at night” or “11pm or later” in the original article?

And I think you are massively underestimating the ingenuity of the average 13 year old if you think that they aren’t capable of being in one place when their parents think they’re in another, late at night or otherwise. Short of keeping them locked under the stairs, there’s not a great deal anyone can do to change that.

Back when this kind of thing didn’t seem quite so rampant, the average parent would touch base with the parents hosting that homework bee or slumber party or whatever it was, just to check everything was OK. Low key, but cautious.

er, at 13, if I’d been out at 11pm or later, and arrived home at some weird time stinking of alcohol, I suspect there’d have been some significant activity before and during on their part.

caf, do you really think that it’s acceptable for parents to be allowing 13 year olds to be out late at night, not knowing where they are?

What always bugged me was that as an underager I’d get into clubs/pubs, get served drinks for a couple of hours, get drunk and then around midnight when we were well and truely sloshed, the same people that had let us in and not been fazed about us drinking earlier, would then ask for our ID and when we were found to be underage they’d kick us out.
It used to annoy me because they were the ones that ‘irresponsibly’ served us drinks (didn’t mind that bit so much as) – then once determining that we were underage and not therefore not deemed mature enough to drink – they kick your completly wasted butt out on the streets.

Prolly because they haven’t determined how negligent the club was yet. The article doesn’t say how she got in, how long she was there, and if she’d been served alcohol at the premises.

I was just musing on the same thing. All these kids out around Canberra, doing bad things and making life less pleasant for everyone, presumably they are not from the orphanage, presumably they have parents. Why are they not doing their jobs as parents?

This kid (and the others) aren’t necessarily doing anything to harm others, just themselves, but if they can be going out and getting legless, they could be doing anything.

Same with me Thumper (btw, thanks for making me feel old B@$%!^D) By 13 we were doing all that and worse. My experience with the cops were similar too, with one or two notable exceptions
